Consecutive interpreting
Consecutive interpreting is recommended for business negotiations, professional meetings or presentations. The interpreter sits at the meeting table together with the meeting parties and takes notes of what is said. The speaker breaks after every 4-5 sentences, that is, after finishing a thought, and the interpreter reflects what was said in the given target language. The interpreter often has to interpret into both language directions. This type of interpreting does not necessitate the use of any interpretation equipment.
Simultaneous interpreting
Simultaneous interpreting is practised at international events, conferences and important multilingual presentations with a large number of participants. The simultaneous interpreter translates the words of the speaker at the same time as the speaker is giving the speech without changing the natural flow of the speech. The target language audience listens to the interpreters using headsets. Since simultaneous interpreting is a very intense work and requires serious concentration, interpreters usually work in pairs for 20-30 minute shifts. The simultaneous interpreters have excellent language skills and high proficiency in the source and target languages.
Interpreters work in soundproof booths and have to have proper sight of the speaker(s) and of the presentation wall in the case of a presentation.

Escort interpreting
This type of interpreting is often used for factory visits and trainings, sightseeing tours, administrative errands, interviews. It is a subcategory of consecutive interpreting since the interpreter translates short segments of a speech, still, it is less formal than consecutive or other types of interpreting. The escort interpreter has to make sure both the client and those around the client understand everything that is communicated. The escort interpreter should not only have extended knowledge of the source and target languages but also be an expert on local dialects, culture and locations.
Whispered (chuchotage) interpreting
Whispered interpreting is a subtype of simultaneous interpreting. However, it is used in small groups or bilateral meetings with few delegates where the participants do not speak one language. The interpreter is standing or sitting close to the delegates and translates in real-time what the speaker is saying to the delegates.
